I do a lot of my thinking in Windows Notepad. Switching to gedit on Ubuntu was easy, a lot of the same functionality was there. But TextEdit on macOS is weird. The fancy animations are very Apple. The main thing is I hate not having instant timestamp with F5. Some years ago I remember getting into a couple of hours of yakshaving with Python trying to get timestamps working on Notepad++.
